The UK Cornhole League (UKCL) Season 3 opener was a brilliant day of competition, with Liam McGrath going unbeaten to secure victory at Qualifier 1.
In only his second season, Liam McGrath has quickly become a standout player in the UK Cornhole scene. Last season, he disrupted the status quo by finishing second in total points scored, earning him Pro status not just in the UKCL, but also in the American Cornhole Organization (ACO). McGrath’s talent was clear when he clinched the UKCL Season 2 Qualifier 3 event, and he’s carried that rich vein of form into Season 3 with an outstanding performance at the opening Qualifier.
Jon Stynes, the runner-up at Qualifier 1, also continued his impressive streak. Stynes, like McGrath, earned both UKCL and ACO Pro status after a strong showing last season, which included winning the Season 2 Doubles Championships. His performance at this season’s opener once again showcased that he is one to watch as the season progresses.
Ben Shaw secured a well-deserved third-place spot. Shaw, who made his UKCL debut in Season 2, has only been playing for a year but has shown remarkable consistency. A member of the Ashby Baggers Cornhole Club, Shaw has consistently placed well in each event and has the potential to rise further up the rankings as the season unfolds.
The event attracted a total of 45 players, showcasing the ever-growing enthusiasm and community spirit within the UK Cornhole scene. With a mix of seasoned competitors and new faces making their debut on the UKCL circuit, the event was not only competitive but also a great social occasion that highlighted the sport’s welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.
While some key players from last season were unable to attend, there’s no doubt they’ll be eager to make their mark in the upcoming events. The next event is set to take place on Sunday, 17th November 2024, once again at Ashby De La Zouch, and promises to be another action-packed day of cornhole.
